In a run, a squirrel's fore feet will print behind the front feet. While running, the hind and fore feet line up, in contrast to a rabbit which will print with one foot lagging behind the other.
Few signs are able to positively distinguish fox squirrel from gray squirrel where their ranges overlap, although their prints are slightly larger.
